Planet Footprint has developed the Subscriber Recognition Program to highlight and reward the commitment of subscribers who have demonstrated environmental responsibility and accountability in energy reporting and performance. Organisations that are using Planet Footprint successfully can be rated as Gold, Silver or Bronze Standard subscribers. These subscribers are promoted nationally – and internationally – as organisations where discussion and rhetoric have been replaced with action and performance improvement.

To achieve these recognition levels an organisation must demonstrate that it’s using the Planet Footprint Service effectively. Planet Footprint has developed a simple set of criteria against which subscribers can be measured to determine if they qualify for a higher recognition Standard. The ratings are allocated at the end of each financial year based on their achievements.

The criteria is based on seven characteristics that Planet Footprint considers as critical to making an organisation more sustainable:

1. The organisation is continuously monitoring and reporting on the energy and water performance of all facilities.

2. The organisation has an understanding of it's current and historical carbon footprint/greenhouse emissions.

3. The organisation is reporting on actions and measures to improve, not just ‘end of pipe’ performance.

4. The organisation is actively building a culture of individual environmental responsibility and accountability.

5. The organisation is managing its performance 'anomalies' routinely.

6. The organisation is routinely identifying and quantifying the outcomes of improvement projects.

7. The organisation is routinely reporting environmental performance ‘up the line’.
